Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (51-1-2) fights Sergey Kovalev (34-3-1) for the Russian’s WBO light heavyweight belt at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada on Saturday night.
Canelo is looking to enhance his legacy by winning a championship belt in a fourth weight division and this will be his first fight in the Light Heavyweight division.
The 29 year-old Mexican beat the American Daniel Jacobs by Unanimous Decision in May to retain his WBA (Super), WBC, The Ring, and lineal middleweight titles and add Jacobs’ IBF middleweight belt.
Kovalev has had a great career, but at the age of 36 his best days are probably behind him. That’s further emphasised by the fact that the Russian has lost three of his last seven fights (two losses to the American Andre Ward and a knockout loss to Colombia’s Eleider Alvarez).
